Service 03 · Year-Round Usable

Built for the night
you don't want to end.

Fireplaces, fire pits, fire bowls, and integrated fire-and-water features. Gas or wood-burning. Designed as focal points that make your backyard usable 10 months a year in Georgia — not a bowl you hauled in from the hardware store.

The Problem

Every October your backyard goes quiet. That's a lot of house you're not using.

Portable fire pits feel cheap

The big-box bowl on legs works for a camping trip, not a backyard you spent money on. It burns through wood fast, rusts in a year, and always feels like an afterthought.

No focal point at night

Lighting fades. The pool goes dark. Without fire, there's nothing holding your attention outside. Everyone drifts back inside by 9pm.

Gas lines feel scary

You want gas for convenience, but nobody will touch it. You're stuck running an extension cord for an electric heater instead.

Our Approach

Real fire, built into the backyard from day one.

RutherfordMade designs fire features as integrated elements — stone fire pits that match the pool coping, fireplaces with proper ventilation, gas bowls that anchor the hardscape. Gas line pulled with the pool permit. Burner spec'd for the Georgia climate. Full safety compliance. Your backyard works in November.

1

Placement for conversation

Fire pit sized and placed so guests actually gather around it. Fireplace aimed so smoke doesn't hit the dining area.

2

Gas or wood — spec'd right

Gas lines properly sized and inspected. Wood-burning designed with enough draft. Either way, it lights on the first try every time.

3

Integrated, not imported

Same stone as the pool coping and hardscape. Fire feature looks designed, not dropped in.

4

Safe around people

GA code compliant, glass barriers where needed, cool-touch materials near seating. Kids welcome.

FAQ

What homeowners ask about fire features.

How much does a fire feature cost?
Most fire features fall between $8,000 and $35,000. A simple gas fire pit integrated into existing hardscape starts on the lower end. Full outdoor fireplaces with chimneys and stonework go toward the higher end. Fire bowls along a pool edge sit in the middle.
Gas or wood-burning — which is better?
Gas is more convenient and cleaner. Wood is more traditional and has the smell. We design both. Most clients pick gas for fire pits and bowls (on/off switch), wood for the occasional full fireplace. Scott walks through the trade-offs on the consultation.
Are permits needed?
Yes for gas lines and most built-in fire features in Georgia. RutherfordMade handles the permits — it's part of the build, not something you chase.
Can you add a fire feature to a pool you didn't build?
Yes. We'll match the stone and finish to your existing hardscape as closely as possible. It's usually a 2-4 week build on its own.
Will it work year-round?
In North Metro Atlanta, yes. Properly spec'd fire features make the backyard comfortable down into the 40s — which covers almost every night of the year except January and early February.
